It's been a wild week for "Pimp Chronicles" comedian Katt Williams. First, there were false rumors over the weekend that he had died in a plane crash. Then, according to the New York Daily News, Williams spent most of Thursday in jail on weapons charges, but posted bail with just enough time to make it to his sold-out headlining gig at New York's Carnegie Hall.
The paper reported that Williams, 37, was arrested early Thursday morning after police found his Mercedes bus and red Cadillac Escalade parked on Broadway. Police noticed that the SUV was missing a license plate and that three guns were in plain sight inside the vehicles. When Williams emerged from a nearby building, he told the cops that the vehicles were his, and the officers handcuffed him.
Eighteen hours after being arrested, the comedian posted $25,000 bond and was released right around the time he was supposed to hit the stage at Carnegie Hall. "Wearing baggy jeans and a satin shirt, [Williams] ... spritzed himself with cologne and jumped into a black limo," the paper reported. "Half an hour later, it screeched to a stop near the rear stage entrance on West 56th Street, and Williams, surrounded by bodyguards, jumped out and disappeared into the hall."
Hitting the stage just over an hour late, Williams reportedly apologized to the audience, telling them, "I'm not moving at my usual pace. I just got out of jail 35 minutes ago." He assured the audience that he raced to the show because of them, though, not for the payday. "I wasn't thinking about the money — maybe because they paid me in advance."
Last month, Williams did not show up for his gig as host of the BET Awards, and the comic also didn't make it to a gig on "Late Night With Conan O'Brien" Wednesday night, forcing the host to vamp a bit, LALate.com reports. O'Brien said that Williams was the first guest in 15 years not to appear for a scheduled appearance on the show.
"I hope he's OK. I don't know were he is. Maybe he's celebrating this momentous day, I don't know, I don't want to make any assumptions. I hope he's fine, I hope he's OK," O'Brien said. A spokesperson for Williams could not be reached for comment at press time. "
